Why write about suffering in an Eastern bloc country? Isn’t there enough trouble in the world? Can’t we just have some light entertainment to help us forget?
These are questions that I have been asked. In interviews, I have attempted to address the question of why this place and why these characters, and what it was like for me to write this novel.
This past summer in July, Mindy Halleck of Literary Liaisons read a review copy of Better You Go Home, sensed that there was a story in the writing of the story, and graciously videotaped an interview that allowed me to go much more deeply into my thinking about the story and how it came to be. This interview has been posted on YouTube, but if you are interested, click on the above link and then let me know what you think.
